How You Can Repair A Scratched Disc

Discs, CDs and DVDs are mediums through which we store our precious data. It could be movies, songs, photographs or very important document files. We sometimes come across situations where we are unable to run a disc, as there are scratches on the surface. This might prove frustrating specially if you’ve important data related to your work or memories that would like to cherish for a long time.

Don’t panic in this situation. First check out the surface of your CD or DVD. If the scratches are running from the middle of the disc to the outside rim, chances are that you will be able to use the disc after using a simple cleaning process. Take a lens cleanup cloth and clean the surface of the disc. Most of the times, dust is responsible for temporary damage that could be fixed by cleanup.

But, make certain that you clean starting from the middle of the disc to the outside edge in a straight line. Do not use circular motion. In case this method does not work for you, toothpaste or peanut butter could repair a scratched disc. Rub a very little amount gently on the whole surface of the scratched disc. Leave it for five minutes with the scratched side facing upwards. Wash this with lukewarm water and then softly clean with a lens cloth.

Instead, you could clean the surface with alcohol. The peanut butter & toothpaste fill in the scratches to fix a scratched disc. Auto wax and furniture polish are some other options. Auto wax could repair moderate scratches whereas furniture polish is used for deep scratches. To use auto wax, rub it in the same way as you would have done with toothpaste. Wait for the wax to dry and then remove the extra layer using cotton balls.

Furniture polish is quite rough and must be used only when the other ways to repair a scratched disc have not worked. A safe way to repair a scratched CD is to use a repairing machine. These machines are easily available on the internet. Other than repairing scratches they can aid in preventing them by keeping the disc clean. They generally clean & repair within seconds to give a nearly new disc.
